The NYPD's chief chaplain was the victim of an attempted mugging Tuesday morning on the Upper West Side, according to reports.

Rabbi Alvin Kass was walking near West 107th Street and Riverside Drive around 6 a.m. when he was approached by a man who told him he was hungry and needed food, the New York Post reports.

The man then allegedly started going through the rabbi's pockets. 

The Post reports the man grabbed the rabbi's wallet, but then dropped it and fled empty handed.

Kass reportedly fell and hit his shoulder during the incident, but did not seek medical attention.

The Sergeants Benevolent Association reacted on Twitter writing, "At what point does anyone leading this city take responsibility?"
